Gilles, Ern, Yacob, & Loi

A perfect day for petanque. Sunny, not too hot, and not at all humid. Light rain from the night before softened the ground for the morning. But it only got harder as the day went on.

Twenty-two doubles teams played, with players coming from far and wide, including Canada and France. Yacob (Canada) teamed up with Loi (Philadelphia); Hubert Plisson (France) with Jeannot Ruperti; Yann and Arnaud (Connecticut); Brad and Jamie (West Chester, PA); Franck Labasse (Las Vegas), playing with Jean-Pierre Subrenat; and of course the irrepressible Mo (Philadelphia) who got matched up with Mike (West Chester, PA).

Sixteen teams qualified to the finals after playing 3 games. The 1st elimination round saw some big upsets, with Raja and Carles (Spain) beating JPS and Franck Labasse, and Franck Petronio and Hakim taking a revenge on Hubert-Jeannot.

Yacob-Loi beat Ti-Thiam in the quarterfinals and beat Yngve-Lucien in the semifinals. Gilles-Ernesto beat Eric-Xavier in the semifinals.

Yacob-Loi defeated Gilles-Ernesto in a see-saw game, featuring timely shooting, great points, as well as some missed opportunities. Both teams had their chances. The score 13-11.

  • 1st: Yacob Nour, Loi Nguyen
  • 2nd: Gilles Ray, Ernesto Santos
  • 3rd: Eric Bertin, Xavier Thibaud
