St. Barth Team Wins Hery Open

THE TEAM FROM ST. BARTH—Philippe Sigari, Eric Chevalier, Carlos Natario—bested a field of 18 triples teams to take the Hery Open. In a drabby, drippy day at Bryant Park, the eventual winners took a first game drubbing from team Ernesto-Steve-Lucien (13-3). They didn’t lose another game.
Qualifying last to the finals, they outplayed the top-seed Ti-Yngve-Mo in the quarterfinal; took their revenge on Ernesto-Steve-Lucien (13-8), with the score 8-8, a 5-point round, in the semifinal. They would meet Phil Hemery, Peter Crowley, and Thierry Julliard, who beat Pierre-Charles-Joseph and Gilles-Eric-Bernard in the quarter and semi, respectively, to reach the final.
St Barth started strong in the final. They played the short game, keeping the bouchon at 6 to 7 meters, taking advantage of more consistant pointing. Always up on ball count, they only faltered a little when having to shoot longer shots. Team Phil-Peter-Thierry made a brief surge when Peter took over as first pointer. But it was to no avail. Final score was 13-3.
Scoring line: 1-0, 3-0, 8-0, 9-0, 9-1, 9-3, 11-3, 13-3.
