Ernesto and Gilberte Win Memorial Tournament

Ernesto Santos and Gilberte Hemery won the Memorial Tournament, beating Keita Bangaly and Pierre Benjamin in the final, 13-9. Twenty-six players attended, making 10 doubles and 2 triples teams in this melee tournament. Eight teams qualified for the finals.
Originally scheduled to take place in Bryant Park, the venue was changed at the last minute due to a possible schedule conflict. Instead the New York Petanque Club gratiously allowed La Boule New Yorkaise to hold the tournament in their terrain in Prospect Park, Brooklyn.
On their way to the final, Keita and Pierre beat Amadou Thiam and Ralph Westerhoff, in his first tournament, and then Jean-Pierre Hemery, playing with Valerie Feschet, who had come all the way from France. Ernesto and Gilberte beat two triples teams: first, Joel Shiflet, Lorissa Rinehart, and Tiana Rarivoson, then, Jackie Despretz, Chris Artis, and Bert Querioz.
Ibrahim Adiho with Marcy Guth beat Emile Boujeke and Bruce Janovsky in the final of the consolante.
