General Membership Meeting

Posted by ern, December 10, 2009

On December 6, LBNY convened its annual general membership meeting. The meeting was held at The Community Room of Pierre Benjamin’s apartment complex. About 30 members attended.

Of note, the members voted on the following:

  1. That LBNY disassociate from New York Petanque, Inc (NYPI). (NYPI will be dissolved.)
  2. That LBNY’s bylaws conform to the FPUSA Constitution and Bylaws. All LBNY members must be FPUSA-licensed.
  3. Declaration on FPUSA Licensing Policy:In view of the LBNY’s commitment to an inclusive FPUSA, based on the principles of cooperation and mutual respect;In view of the LBNY’s long-standing and on-going support of competitive petanque at both the national and international levels, both of which require a national licence recognized by the FIPJP; andIn view of the fact that the FPUSA has not stated a clear policy on licensing, the FPUSA Constitution and By-Laws not explicitly addressing the issue;
    The LBNY hereby:

    1. Encourages FPUSA officials to revise its Constitution and By-Laws to clarify its rules on licensing, and to consider making FPUSA licensing obligatory for all members of FPUSA-affiliated clubs, after consultation with affected Club Presidents;
    2. Encourages the FPUSA to engage in dialogue with Clubs and FPUSA members on the various costs and benefits of such a rule;
    3. Encourages the FPUSA to ensure that, if such a rule is adopted, appropriate exceptions are created for foreign-licensed players and individuals already licensed in other FPUSA-affiliated Clubs, without which such a rule would not be enforceable.

The following members were elected to join the board for 2 years: Ernesto Santos, Chris Artis, Yngve Biltsted, and, newly elected, Raja Harb.

Thank you for the good meeting,

Ernesto Santos
President, LBNY
